40th Annual Pig Roast Party 2003

 | Pre-Party | Pig Roast Party | Loretto Fishing | Capitan Munoz | Larry's 50 Year's | Part 2 NEW ! |

Great friends are the key ingredient to any trip however it sure helps to have  a destination that is second to none.  We have been going to Loreto at this time of year for 10 plus years and this is the first time we started our adventure at the Hotel Serenidad in Mulege.  What a great way to start any trip to the Baja.

Twelve small planes with 44 people arrived at the Hotel Serenidad on Saturday around noon and were greeted with a magnificant margarita and it just got better.  After an afternoon of shrimp cocktail, fried fish, nachos and more magnificent margaritas at the swim-up bar we all enjoyed the fabulous world famous pig roast.  It is truly delicious.

The night was still young so most of the group visited the city of Mulege.  It is a beautiful town with a great deal of local color which included some great drinking establishments along with the local cock fights.  Very interesting.

No one was moving very early Sunday morning except a few energetic fishermen who did very well catching dorado.  Most of us got up very slowly and had a very leisurely breakfast.  I really have to thank Don Johnson, the owner of the Hotel Serenidad, his daughter, Deana, the real boss, Deborah and the king of the margarita Benito for their unbelievable hospitality.  What a treat!!!

Once we were finally moving again we enjoyed a beautiful 30 minute flight down the coast to Loreto.  After checking in at the Oasis we relaxed with a few drinks then a great lunch, a nap, a swim then dinner.  Life is great!!  For the next two days it was eat, fish, swim and enjoy the local sights.  Fishing is always great but this year the catching was a little slow, still great but not the usual numbers.

As always the accommodations, the food and the service is first class at the Oasis.  Anna Gloria Benzinger and Patty do an outstanding job.  We will continue to go back for years to come.  We always hate to leave.

After fishing and having a four day party it was finally time to go home and rest up for next years adventure.  I can hardly wait!!
